About Chalk Passport
Official climbing log · chalkpassport.com
Chalk Passport (also written chalkpassport or chalk passport) is a personal climbing log at chalkpassport.com. You stamp indoor gyms and outdoor rocks you have climbed, by country, locality, climbing type, and the highest grade you sent there.
It is not a travel wallet, leather passport cover, or accessory in a “chalk” off-white color. Chalk here means climbing chalk. It is also not a gym membership, day pass, or multi-gym access card. It does not get you into a wall. It records where you already climbed.
How stamps work
Sign in, then log a visit. Each stamp can include the place, date, grade, notes, the shoes (and harness, on rope) you used, and an optional public TikTok, Instagram, or YouTube clip. Repeat visits to the same gym or crag add another stamp, not a duplicate place. Multi-location gyms use an outlet (for example Boulder Planet Sembawang versus Tai Seng).
Your visit history and gear locker are private to your account. Other climbers cannot browse your passport. Places and grade charts are shared so the next person can find the same gym or crag.
Gyms, rocks, and grades
A gym is an artificial wall (including outdoor plastic). Rock is natural stone. Climbing types are bouldering, top-rope, and lead. House colours and numbers stay as the gym uses them; a community V-scale mapping sits beside them as a rough compare, not an official conversion.
Questions
What is Chalk Passport?
Chalk Passport (chalkpassport.com) is a personal climbing log, not a travel wallet or passport holder. You stamp indoor gyms and outdoor rocks you have climbed, by country, locality, climbing type, and the highest grade you sent there.
Each stamp stays on your account. Other climbers cannot browse your visits.
Is Chalk Passport a passport holder or travel wallet?
No. Chalk Passport (chalkpassport.com) is a climbing log web app. Chalk here means climbing chalk, not an off-white color. It is not a leather passport cover, RFID travel wallet, or accessory case.
Is Chalk Passport a gym membership or climbing pass?
No. It does not sell gym access, day passes, or a multi-gym membership. You use it to record places you already climbed.
How does Chalk Passport work?
Chalk Passport is a climbing log that only you can open: your personal passport. Each stamp (the place, date, grade, notes, gear, and any clip) stays on your account. Other climbers cannot browse your visits.
Places themselves are shared so the next person can find the same gym or crag. Your sends are not a social feed.
What does Unverified mean?
Add a missing gym or crag from Log a visit. There is no separate queue and no review inbox.
New places stay searchable as Unverified. Your stamp counts on your passport immediately. When a second climber independently stamps the same place, it publishes for everyone.
If a listing is closed or fake, enough reports hide it. Other “this place looks wrong” reports help us correct the name, locality, or grade chart.
How do I add a place that isn’t listed?
In Log a visit, type the name and continue. You’ll set gym vs rock, whether it’s open or closed, what it offers, and the grade scale as you stamp.
That’s the only way community places get into the catalog.
How do house grades compare to V?
House colours and numbers are what the gym uses. The V-scale next to them is a community approximation, useful for a rough compare, not an official conversion.
Your passport’s best-send stat uses a short V for bouldering and French for top-rope and lead, so a gym colour can fit. Ranking still uses V as a rough spine. A boulder and a lead are not 1:1.
Can I add a video to a stamp?
Paste a public TikTok, Instagram, or YouTube link. We embed a preview; the file stays on that app. Clips live on your visit, so they stay private with the rest of your passport.
How do I delete a stamp or my account?
Open a stamp to edit or delete it. To wipe everything, go to Account → Manage account → Delete account. That removes your login, stamps, and gear.
Can I log which shoes or harness I used?
Yes. Add shoes (and a harness for rope) from Profile → Gear, or on the last step when you stamp. Pick them on each visit, or set a default so they’re filled in for you.
Size is the number on the shoe or the label on the harness, not your street size. Climbing brands don’t convert EU / US / UK the same way, so we keep whatever is printed.
First and last worn follow tagged stamps. A typed date stays if it sits outside that range; a new stamp that is earlier or later moves it.
Gear stays private with your stamps. Retire a pair when you stop using it, and old stamps keep the name. We don’t track hours or mileage yet.
